Core Mineral Visualization
The HyLogger core scanner is a rapid spectroscopic core and chip logging and imaging system developed by CSIRO. The Hylogger data allows mineral explorers to view high resolution drillcore imagery and associated spectral data. This challenge is to find a way to evolve the high resolution RGB 3 band image into a visual mineral interpretation tool by integrating the core registered spectra dataset.
Objective: To classify an RGB 3 band image of core to produce a high resolution spectral mineral interpretation of the surface.
Successful outcomes may include:
- Derive the mineral identification from the coarse grained spectra. Almost always there are mixtures of minerals contributing to the specra.
- Classify the high resolution image into spatially coherent classes using the RGB bands.
- Assign mineral identification from the spectra to the high resolution imagery.
- Colourise the imagery according to classes.
