From Idea to Prototype on Resource Challenges in just a Weekend
This competition has finished.
Determine a way to track the ore moisture and tonnage change between site and port.
Northparkes mines is located 27km Northwest of the township of Parkes in NSW. The concentrator produces approximately 150,000 tonnes of concentrate per year at 8.8% moisture. This is transported in containers by train from site to Port Kembla for shipment loading.
It’s critical that the concentrate loaded onto the ship is below the transportable moisture limit (TML). The TML is the point when the concentrate is too dangerous to ship due to the risk of liquefaction.
The current process display a discrepancy between the estimated weight and moisture of the concentrate and the measure at disport.
- What modelling could be set up to estimate the moisture loss between site and being loaded into a container?
- Is there a technology we could use on our containers or in our concentrate that would allow us better clarity in tracking our logistic chain?
