Improve the scheduling of autonomous loaders in our underground operations to optimise production.
In a block cave operation, load-haul-dump (LHD) trucks operate according to a draw call, signalling how many tonnes and in which order ore is to be loaded from drawpoints before being hauled and dumped into the ROM dump point.
This draw call aims to preserve the integrity of the caving process, provide an even head grade (send a consistent grade to the ore processing plant) and maximise production. As multiple LHDs dump to the same ROM tip point, traffic interactions can cause significant delays to the operation
There is currently little to no consideration of the traffic congestion rate loss in the initial draw call generation. There also hasn’t been any optimisation of loader usage in achieving production targets.
- Improve the draw call and loader usage, subject to the provided constraints, by minimising traffic interactions but maintaining the production targets.
- Historical data provides a wealth of information that could allow for future trends to be accurately predicted.
- Completing the production target as quickly as possible is valuable, but reducing the LHD count shouldn’t be overlooked.
