From Idea to Prototype on Resource Challenges in just a Weekend
This competition has finished.
Maximise alumina plant production through analysis of thousands of production plant data channels.
South32 seeks to improve its Worsley Alumina refinery production output while maintaining the impact on the quality of the alumina produced. The final product is influenced by a multitude of variables. Due to the high number of variables, the significant lag between input and output of product (~10 days) and high cost of production, testing the variables individually is not feasible. Is there information contained
in the recorded data that can be utilised to improve plant
production within certain constraints?
Potential Areas to Consider:
- Is there a way to operate the refinery to maximize plant production by balancing yield and flows simultaneously.
- Given the large refinery tank volumes that result in a significant time delay (~10 days), can a system be developed to predict the product quality
