Predicting or preventing SAG mill surge events through big data analysis.
SAG mills are generally the bottle neck in a mineral processing plant and therefore directly influence the amount of gold produced. In the current configuration however, the SAG mill is susceptible to unstable operation in the form of sudden discharge end surges, during which the mass flow can suddenly increase by up to 500%. There is currently very little to no warning to the plant operator, resulting in rate loss or even stoppage in the plant.
Rate loss and downtime events can be very costly to the operation ( around $100k per hour).
Control room operators either receive early warning of an upcoming surge event or the surging is totally eliminated.
