From Idea to Prototype on Resource Challenges in just a Weekend

The autoclave uses high temperatures and pressures to separate gold from waste minerals. As the slurry passes through the autoclave, O2 valves add oxygen into each chamber while the agitator mixes the O2 into the slurry. Issues arise when an O2 valve does not release the appropriate amount into the solution. Low amounts of O2 result in a thicker slurry causing additional strain on the agitators, higher demands of energy and power, changes in internal temperature, as well as scaling (solid buildup on the blades of the agitator that adds weight and reduces its efficiency).
