Polymer Bonded Industrial Explosives With Enhanced Power and Thermal Stability
Drastic measures are taken in order to improve the properties of civil explosives. First, an energetic, thermally stable binder with high reactivity as reducing agent is selected. The binder, platinum cure silicone, also plays the role of a catalyst for the aluminum combustion and generates pyrophoric decomposition products. All problems with curing inhibition are solved, as nanosized SiO2 is employed for hardening catalyst carrier. Furthermore, particle size distribution of the main fuel, aluminum powder, is selected for best performance.
