Flooding is becoming more frequent, and more severe. It accounts for 50% of all natural disaster-related damages in Australia. Of the $8.8 Billion in annual flood damages in Australia, 80% of these occur in Queensland, causing significant economic impact. In 2017, Cyclone Debbie cost Queensland farmers $1 Billion, mining companies $1.5 Billion and insurers $1.6 Billion. Flooding causes >$50 Billion in damages globally, causing thousands of deaths each year. This is affecting mining and energy companies, and our communities.

As existing technologies require manual data input, a majority of damages occur due to businesses and individuals not having access to a real-time, accurate, predictive flood visualisation system. Current warning systems are inadequate, with flood warnings typically communicated in flood height, which is not intuitive nor useful in an emergency; with existing 2D finite difference models lacking technical capability to offer forecast inundation areas as a map. FloodMapp’s automated predictive and hazard flood mapping can mitigate and prevent flood-associated damages within Australia as well as in global export markets.
