AREAS OF EXPERTISE

Simon has over 20 years’ experience in the oil and gas sector. Today working as offshore exploration manager for the Australian oil and gas producer Santos. He has worked across the globe in corporate leadership and technical roles at Santos, Talisman Energy and Shell.

He has core discipline knowledge in geoscience, with extensive experience in exploration, development, operations, procurement, commercial and regulatory compliance across Australia, Asia and Europe.

MOTIVATION

Simon is biased to action and motivated to lead organisations towards extraordinary performance. He has a passion for bringing clarity to complicated situations and applying an outcome-focused mindset to business problems.

He enjoys being surrounded by exciting, motivated people who are at work on hard problems that have no obvious solution.

GIVING BACK

Simon is keen to share his experience in developing business investment plans and pitching for investment capital, alongside his deep technical background in geoscience.

He can provide an industry context for his mentees’ ideas, products or services and educate startups as to real world conditions, including parameters for success in the resource sector.

SUCCESS STORY

Simon is also a mentor with Women in Oil and Gas and has a background and training in counselling.

In one memorable case, his mentee worked on an outcome concerning how they occurred in the world over a three-month period.

They moved from a person with highly frustrated behaviours, into someone who was much more aware of how they were seen by others. This self-awareness was channelled towards the technical outcomes the mentee was seeking, and moved their performance from bottom of the pile to class-leading.

The mentee has used this outcome focused self-awareness to achieve promotion and an expatriate posting, despite the resources downturn.
